Ferguslie Park

Fergulsie Park is a community of more than 4,000 people to the west of Paisley town centre. There has been huge investment in the built environment over the last twenty years but the area remains dotted with greenspaces of poor quality and ill-defined purpose.

The Ferguslie Park Green Network is a demonstration project exploring a strategic approach to greenspace improvement at a neighbourhood level. The aim is to improve the quality of the urban environment, enhance quality of life for residents, strengthen biodiversity and help create new economic opportunities. It is also very much about making physical links locally and across the region and sharing good practice and ideas between communities.

‘The benefits of engaging with the Green Network are: it gives us access to a much bigger initiative; it makes us feel involved with the Bigger Picture; and from their point-of-view it gives a top down overarching view of how to involve greenspace or how to integrate greenspace into the work that we do’ Jenny Gough, Assistant Prinaipal Regeneration & Environment, Renfrewshire Council
