On their bikes!

Members of the Ravenscraig project steering group got on their bikes this month to investigate the development of some aspirational walking and cycling routes identified in a new study.

The regeneration of Ravenscraig in North Lanarkshire is one of the largest projects of its kind in Europe. The ‘Ravenscraig wider linkages’ study investigates opportunities to develop 24 walking and cycling routes around Ravenscraig.

Ravenscraig Team CycleThe potential routes will provide people with access to a range of key recreational and environmental sites in Lanarkshire, such as:

  • Strathclyde Country Park
  • Baron’s Haugh Nature Reserve
  • The Greenlink
  • Motherwell and Wishaw Town Centres
  • Local rail transport hubs
The identified routes provide an excellent indication of the variety resource available locally which can be made more accessible. These routes will be prioritised and delivered as sufficient resources become available. The Ravenscraig Wider Linkages study was supported by the Partnership, together with North Lanarkshire Council and Central Scotland Forest Trust.
