Opportunities Mapping Renfrewshire

Renfrewshire Council (RC) has commenced preparation of its Local Development Plan (LDP) which will require to comply with the wider Strategic Development Plan and will incorporate Policies which seek to ensure a robust and defensible Green Network.

RC recognised the potential of the GIS based methodology recently developed by the Partnership to map Strategic Green Network Opportunities for the Strategic Development Plan Main Issues Report to inform their own LDP.  The Partnership has worked with the local authority to refine the methodology and identify appropriate datasets to fulfill their requirements.

The resultant analysis has considered four data layers which collectively spatially represent the GCV Green Network and key strategic opportunities for Renfrewshire.  The data layers were:

  • Open space audit qualitative assessment + Core Path Plan
  • Habitat network opportunities
  • Access network opportunities
  • Development and regeneration opportunities

The outputs will inform:

  • The development of a policy framework for the Renfrewshire Local Development Plan which will support the protection and development of the Green Network within the Renfrewshire area; and
  • The identification of a robust and defensible Green Network for Renfrewshire together with priority opportunities for action
