Gartloch Gartcosh Overview

The Gartloch & Gartcosh community growth corridor stretches from Ruchazie in Glasgow through to Coatbridge in North Lanarkshire.

The Gartloch & Gartcosh corridor is of immensely high value in terms of both natural and cultural heritage. A network of habitats – mainly wetlands, woodlands and some grassland – support a wealth of important species.

The area’s existing greenspace resources will come under intense pressure in the coming years due to regeneration initiatives and the potential creation of up to 4,300 new homes in the period to 2025.

The Way Forward

A Strategic Delivery Partnership is driving forward proposals for an integrated green network in the area. It is looking at ways to further develop and maintain the area’s Green Network and to progress the creation of a new Wetland Park of national significance. The Partnership has commissioned a number of studies to help take this work forward:

  • Green Network Strategy
  • Site Selection and Development Guidance Study
  • Hydrology study
  • 7 Lochs Wetland Park vision and masterplan
