Seven Lochs Wetland Park

The development of a new, nationally important Wetland Park – the Seven Lochs Wetland Park – sits at the heart of the development of the Gartcosh Gartloch Green Network Strategy.

A draft Seven Lochs Wetland Park vision and masterplan was published in September 2011. The plan, and further information about the proposed Wetland Park, can be found here.

The draft masterplan presents:

  • a vision for the Seven Lochs Wetland Park;
  • proposals for developing the Wetland Park, including enhancing and further developing habitat and access networks and creating new visitor facilities;
  • opportunities to integrate new development and Community Growth Areas with the Wetland Park.

By joining up existing parks and nature reserves with new paths and cycleways, and creating new and enhanced visitor facilities the proposed Wetland Park – at over 16.5 sq km - will become one of Scotland biggest outdoor recreation attractions, drawing people from across central Scotland.

It will be a focus for environmental enhancement, education and training, volunteering and community participation, supporting existing regeneration activity and improving people’s quality of life.

There will also be significant regeneration and new development within and around the park, with plans for 4300 new homes over the next 15 years. The masterplan examines how future development can be integrated into the Wetland Park through the provision of new green infrastructure and multi-functional green networks, creating high quality places where people want to live. This will draw on the principles and practice being developed by our Integrated Green Infrastructure (IGI) project.

We are now working with a range of organisations to further develop the masterplan, and look at how proposals can be implemented. For more information contact;
