Clyde Gateway Green Network Strategy

clyde_gateway_main_imageThe Clyde Gateway takes in an area of Glasgow and South Lanarkshire totalling 3.3 square miles. It will be the location for the Athlete’s Village, NISA stadium and Chris Hoy Velodrome for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

There is an opportunity to transform the area into a thriving location for the 21st century which will benefit existing communities such as Bridgeton, Dalmarnock, Parkhead and Rutherglen.

The wider Clyde Gateway regeneration initiative aims to encourage new businesses and visitors to the area, establishing the Clyde Gateway as a premier location in which to live, work and invest.

The Partnership has a vital role to play in supporting regeneration of the Clyde Gateway and connecting the area to both surrounding communities and the city centre.

Development of the Green Network in Clyde Gateway will help create a new sense of place and improve quality of life in the area, enhancing the area’s attractiveness as a place to invest, locate and recruit.

The Partnership’s Clyde Gateway Green Network Strategy compliments and defines elements of this much larger initiative.

It provides a framework for development and illustrates how the Green Network should integrate and function in the area.

The Strategy highlights opportunities to:

•    Enhance a range of public spaces including the Clyde Walkway as well as creating new pedestrian and cycle routes
•    Improve access routes through landscaping upgrades which will create a quality setting
•    Develop areas around the River Clyde to improve connectivity and living environments for people and wildlife
•    Contribute to building a positive legacy for the Green Network in relation to 2014 Commonwealth Games developments
