Inverclyde Green Network Strategy

Inverclyde main image

Inverclyde is one of the smallest Scottish local authorities and is bordered by Renfrewshire, North Ayrshire and the Firth of Clyde, and is closely linked to Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park

The local Urban Regeneration Company is coordinating efforts to transform Inverclyde into an unrivalled business and residential location by 2016.

National, regional and local policy agendas all strongly support the development of a Green Network in Inverclyde, which has been identified as a national priority for regeneration.

Inverclyde's Green Network will encourage investment in the area by establishing a vibrant economic, cultural and natural environment. The Green Network will contribute to regeneration of the Waterfront as well as remodelling of residential areas.

The Strategy promotes the development of better links both within and between the communities of Inverclyde and outward to Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park.

Through creation of Inverclyde’s Green Network communities will be encouraged to be actively involved in the management of their local environment. A wide range of opportunities will also be made available to residents and visitors to access and enjoy Inverclyde's natural and cultural heritage.

The Inverclyde Green Network Strategy highlights opportunities to:

  • Improve perceptions of Inverclyde and promote links to Clyde Muirshiel Park as a major environmental asset
  • Protect and enhance the Green Network through use of the Partnership’s Planning Guidance
  • Establish interpretation points promoting the area’s natural, social and cultural value
  • Co-ordinate the long-term management and delivery of the Green Network through partnership
  • Ensure integration of the Green Network into the structural fabric of Inverclyde’s built environment

The Way Forward

The Inverclyde Green Network steering group is working to deliver the recommendations of the Inverclyde Green Network Strategy. The recommendations have been prioritised and two studies have been commissioned to take things forward:
