Climate Change Adaptation

The Challenge for our Region

Climate change is one of the major challenges facing our City Region and the people who live here.

CCA challenge

UK Climate Projections predict that over the next few decades the Glasgow City Region will progressively have:

  •     drier, hotter summers on average
  •     milder, wetter winters on average
  •     rising sea levels
  •     more extreme weather events leading to flooding and heatwaves

The changing climate will impact negatively on:

  •     the city's economy
  •     vulnerable communities
  •     critical infrastructure

Ensuring the City Region's resilience will undoubtedly be a challenge, requiring a co-ordinated approach from a range of public and private sector organisations. Placing the Green Network and Green Infrastructure at the heart of the response will present opportunities for:

  •     a greener, more attractive and better functioning region
  •     reduced infrastructure costs
  •     the potential to unlock development
  •     the delivery of additional multiple Green Network benefits while addressing climate change

Planning to adapt our city region to make it more resilient to the changing climate should be viewed as an opportunity rather than a threat or burden. The Green Network has a vital and major role to play in providing that resilience and delivering the opportunities.
