Since the Rio Summit in 1992, national governments have progressed toward a step-change in the way in which we address issues of sustainability.
Scotland’s Sustainable Development Strategy “Choosing our Future” identifies four key objectives which link directly into the international agenda for sustainable development:
These objectives are aimed at reducing the global impact of our activities on the environment and alleviating the effects of poverty.
"sustainable development and environmental justice are two key areas in which the GCV Green Network delivers on government policy”
At regional level the Glasgow Metropolitan Community Planning Partnership provides the strategic framework for the Green Network through the City Vision document which identifies key objectives: building the region as a competitive location for business investment and economic activity; promoting social and economic inclusion; encouraging neighbourhood action and volunteering; and addressing issues of sustainable development.
The Green Network Vision is also supported by the Glasgow and Clyde Valley Joint Structure Plan which provides a co-ordinated approach to infrastructure development across the Glasgow metropolitan area.
