The Green Network Partnership has established the Integrating Green Infrastructure Project and will provide “Design Studies” for 2 sites in the GCV area; Nitshill in the South West of Glasgow and Spango Valley near Greenock. These sites were chosen after reviewing applications from various locations.
The Design Studies will consider how each site can be developed by focussing on the 5 key components of IGI, namely;
Water Management; Access Networks; Habitat Networks; Green & Open Space; Stewardship.
Inception meetings have been held for each site and data gathering and analysis is progressing. It is expected that each Design Study will be published in spring 2012. The intention is produce site specific details for each location, but with principles that may be taken and applied at any other appropriate location within and beyond the GCV area accordingly.
If you are aware of a development that may benefit from this approach, get in touch with our Integrating Green Infrastructure Development Officer by e-mailing
Neil.McLean@IRRI.org.uk or calling 0141 229 7746. |

11 partners from 8 European countries visited Glasgow as part of the Sigma for Water (S4W) Project funded through the InterReg 4c Programme. GCV Green Network Partnership co-hosted with IRRI the 2 workshop sessions together with site vists and related meetings for the UK element of the project. Site visits included the "7 Lochs Wetland Park" and "J4M8 Ditribution Park" to showcase both opportunity for wetland park development and Integrating Green Infrastructure (IGI) respectively.
The overall objective of the S4W Project is to encourage all partners' ability to develop and enhance lakes and wetlands for climate change, both for water quality and flood mitigation capabilities. All partners found the visit very interesting and useful and the Project overall has taken positive steps forward. |

Following publication of a draft masterplan earlier this year we have now launched a formal consultation on plans for the Seven Lochs Wetland Park. The success of the project depends upon the support of all our stakeholders, and we want to hear from community groups, NGOs and other agencies to examine how proposals for the Wetland Park can de refined and further developed.
Keep an eye on our Seven Lochs webpages for opportunities to get involved in the consultation, or contact Scott Ferguson, 07891 062 309/scott.ferguson@irri.org.uk for more.
